Materials

Solid, Engineered and Prefinished Hardwood

We install the material that fits the home, the room and the budget, and explain the trade-offs before the estimate is written.

Solid hardwood

One piece of wood through its full thickness, sanded and finished on site or installed prefinished. Best above grade, in living areas and bedrooms.

Engineered hardwood

A real hardwood surface layer bonded to a plywood core, more stable through humidity swings. Works over concrete slabs and radiant heat, common in Denver basements and additions.

Prefinished and unfinished

Prefinished boards arrive stained and sealed, so installation is faster with no odor or downtime. Unfinished boards are sanded and finished on site, which allows a fully custom stain color.

Colorado

Subfloor Prep for Colorado's Dry, High-Altitude Climate

At 5,280 feet, indoor humidity along the Front Range often drops near 20% in winter. Wood delivered straight from a warehouse and installed the same day tends to shrink and gap once a Denver winter arrives.

We acclimate every delivery on site and check subfloor moisture before a single board goes down.

Finishes

Unfinished Floors Are Finished On Site

When the floor arrives unfinished, sanding and finishing happen in the home, which is what makes a fully custom stain color possible.

That is the same crew and the same equipment used on our refinishing projects, so the color of a new floor can be matched to wood that is already in the house.

Installation Questions, Answered

What is the difference between solid and engineered hardwood?

Solid hardwood is one piece of wood through its full thickness and can be sanded and refinished multiple times. Engineered hardwood has a real wood surface bonded to a plywood core, which makes it more stable over concrete slabs, radiant heat and Denver basements, but it can be refinished fewer times over its life.

Does engineered hardwood work over concrete or radiant heat in Denver homes?

Yes. Engineered hardwood is built to handle the temperature and moisture changes of concrete slabs and radiant heat systems better than solid hardwood, which makes it a common choice for Denver basements and additions built on slab.

Why does hardwood flooring need to acclimate before installation in Colorado?

Denver's low humidity and high altitude cause wood to expand and contract more than at sea level. Acclimating boards on site for several days before installation lets the wood adjust first, which reduces gapping and cupping once the home's heating system runs through a Colorado winter.
